Sirius and a Shooting Star   -  By: Babak A. Tafreshi

An interesting meteor streak (half bright and half faint) during the annual Geminid meteor shower that peaks on December 13/14. The shower is created as planet Earth sweeps through dusty debris from extinct comet or asteroid Phaethon. In this photograph from Zagros mountains of Iran near the historic village of Abyaneh, the brightest star in the night sky, Sirius, is at the center.
