In the background is the Einstein Tower (Einsteinturm), a solar observatory, a part of the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam, near Berlin. Although Einstein never worked there, he supported the construction and operation of the telescope. The building is is often cited as one of the few landmarks of expressionist architecture designed by Erich Mendelsohn.
