This fisheye all-sky image (fulldome) is made from the equator in the Samburu National Reserve in Kenya. In the foreground is an acacia tree. The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds appear left of the tree close to the horizon. The plane of our Milky Way Galaxy arcs above faint red airglow along the horizon is not the only band in the sky. Zodiacal light, a band of dust scattering sunlight along the solar system's ecliptic plane, stretches faintly in a different angle across the sky and intersects the Milky way. There is also a slightly brightened oval glow in the zodiacal band, positioned directly opposite the Sun, known as the gegenschein (German for "counter glow"). It is a challenging target to see under dark skies.
