Santorini in Blackout   -  By: Babak A. Tafreshi

An exceptional night view of Oia, a town in Santorini island, Greece. The island is known with its postcard iconic views of the cliff-top towns at the edge of Santorini caldera in the southern Aegean Sea. But the view at night is dominated by thousands of lights in this tourist hotspot. This image is made during a major blackout in August 2013 due to fire in the main power station. In the sky the Big Dipper (main oart of Ursa Major) is right above the town and Polaris, the North Stars, is on the middle left edge. Higher up the Milky Way appears from Aquila to Cassiopeia (right).
