A beetle next to a desert flower, locally known as Jaliz (a kind of Orobanche or broomrape) in Dasht-e Kavir or the Great Salt Desert in Iran. Cistanche tubulosa has no chlorophyll and get its nutients and water from other plants, mainly parasitizes the roots of nearby tamarix plants.
