Mars, Lagoon Nebula, and a Jet - By: Babak A. Tafreshi
Over a communication tower in Arizona, a passenger jet and planet Mars is photographed with to the Lagoon nebula or M8 in constellation Sagittarius. All in one frame, the three objects has dramatically different distances from us. The jet is only few kilometers above the observer, while Mars was over 300 million km away (2 Astronomical Units) at the imaging time, and this is in our planetary neighborhood when compared with the Lagoon Nebula at the distance of 4100 Light Years (~ 100 million billion km or about 300 million Astronomical Units).
